Stafford is fifteen minutes north of us on the M6, and a good share of the work around it is rural rather than urban.
We work with construction limited companies turning over between £500,000 and £5 million. Construction is all we do, which means we are not learning how CIS works on your time.
Rural work raises different questions
Farm buildings, access tracks, drainage, fencing and conversions make up a lot of the building work in mid Staffordshire, and the tax treatment is less obvious than it looks. Fencing is the clearest example. Heavy duty or foundationed fencing, and any fencing forming part of a wider construction project, sits inside CIS. Isolated light duty fencing sits outside it.
Drainage splits the same way
Installing, repairing or relaying a drain is inside the scheme. Routine clearance of gutters and sewage pipes is excluded by name. Firms that do both on the same round are usually applying one treatment to everything.
Barn conversions and the VAT rate
Certain residential conversions qualify for the reduced 5% rate of VAT rather than 20%, and work that changes the number of dwellings in a property is the clearest case. Getting that wrong on a conversion is a fifteen per cent error on the whole job.
What we handle
The same work wherever you are, and all of it built around construction rather than adapted for it.
- CIS accounting and returns, from verification through to the year end reconciliation
- Construction VAT, including the domestic reverse charge and end user status
- Payroll, run alongside CIS rather than separately from it
- Job costing, so you know which contracts made money while there is still time to act
- Cash flow forecasting built around retentions and payment terms
- Year end accounts and Corporation Tax
Not sure whether your work is inside the scheme?
Around a third of the trades we cover sit outside CIS, and most of them have been having deductions taken for years without knowing. Have a look at the trades we work with and find yours, or book a call and we will tell you either way.
Areas we cover
We work across the whole of the UK. These are the areas closest to the office, where we do the most work and where you can come in if you would rather sit down with somebody.
Common questions
Is fencing work inside CIS?
It depends on the fencing. Heavy duty fencing, fencing set in concrete foundations, and any fencing forming part of a wider construction project sit inside the scheme. Isolated light duty fencing sits outside it. That split comes from HMRC’s own guidance and it means two jobs on the same road can be treated differently.
Do you cover the villages as well as Stafford itself?
Yes. We work across the whole of the UK, so anywhere in mid Staffordshire is well within reach. Everything runs on cloud accounting rather than on visits.
